This is normal due to hormonal changes, age, or the introduction of new medications. I have always had very thin hair, but lots of it, until I started taking blood pressure medication. The hairdresser said that my hair was falling out when I visited the salon. It was obvious that my hair was shedding longer blonde hairs than my dog walking around a room. What did I do? Research. This is my regimen, I hope it will be of help to you.
- Biotin is a supplement I began to take. You can use it for your nails and hair, but not for your hair. They don’t have enough Biotin to be effective. I take three tablets each night.
- Products for thinning hair. I love Nioxin but have heard great things about Kerenique. I make sure to use conditioners with Argon Oil.
- Reduce the amount of hair processing such as blow drying, coloring, and brushing. You can keep your hair looking fresh by not washing it every day. Instead, use a “dry shampoo” between washes. You can give your hair body and waves by using fabric hair that has been lightly dried to create a ponytail and then a second one to tie it into a bun.
- You should be careful with other hair products such as mousse, gels and hairspray. They must be free of alcohol. You should protect your hair from the heat generated by the blow dryer.
- Eat iron-rich foods.
- For special occasions and social events, I don’t mind doing my hair the extra mile.
After just a few months, I noticed a huge difference. After about a year and half, my hair has grown to a length that is greater than it was before I began taking blood pressure medication. Although it’s fine, there is more hair. Because I was blonde, you could see the light through my hair even when it was down. It’s not so! My hair is now the healthiest and most full of life.
My husband had to take blood pressure medication recently. He was proud of his thick, full hair. Guess what? It was crazy how quickly he lost it! I convinced him to try the Biotin, and we now use the same shampoo/conditioner. He was a good sport and admitted to my wisdom. Now, the only one who sheds is our dog.
